ABOUT
Carrot Life & Britney Sones
Food and culture…I don’t think you can have one without the other. We can share so much of ourselves by sharing the food and flavors that we love with one another! Traveling the world and living in New York for many years I have seen and embraced many ways of life. It's opened my eyes to so many wonderful flavors that I am excited to share with you through a vegan lens! Â
So, who am I you ask? Well, although I have always had a love for vegetables and fruit, I didn't start out in the world as a vegan. It took time. But for me, it's an energetic and healthy way to live life. Living in New York's fashion industry for many years I WORKED A LOT. There was very little work-life balance, and I ate horribly just to eat and keep working. I decided I couldn’t keep running myself into the ground and made a change…starting with my diet. I became vegetarian and spent more time exploring the flavors NYC had to offer. After years of embracing my new way of life, I ended up reconnecting with my high school crush and moved to Colorado. This took me from living alone in the city to living with my spouse and 4-year-old stepdaughter in the suburbs. From planning 3-hour trips outside of the city for some fresh air, to driving 15 minutes to the Rocky Mountains. Along with all of these life changes, I went from being vegetarian to eating meat to accommodate who I was living with. I slowly started feeling like I did when working in NYC’s fashion week (tired, bloated, hazy, and run down). That's when I realized vegetables have always been and continue to be the best way of life for me. Expanding on vegetarianism and becoming vegan, I’ve found creative ways to eat healthy and savory. Inspiring my family to have the same appreciation for vegan cuisine.
Still working in the creative world today as a print designer for the outdoor industry, I find so much more to life as a young stepparent and wife, not just a work alcoholic. Some would say I’m a lover of the 60's - 70's, serious and corky, but above all, a curious learner who's always ready to share new ideas. My experiences, failures, and desire to explore the richness of humanity through food are what brought me to start Carrot Life.Â
The name…why Carrot Life? Well, the story behind it has always been a joke in my family and a memory I still chuckle about today.  As a kid I LOVED carrots, so much so that I ate three huge bags of them in one day and LITERALLY turned orange! The name Carrot Life celebrates that instinctive love of veggies from a young age. One that with the hustle and bustle of adulthood I abandoned for a while but am so happy to be embracing once again. I hope that sharing my ideas can inspire others to cook with vegetables in creative and FLAVORFUL ways! More importantly, I hope to inspire you to remember and connect again with whatever it is that sets your soul on fire.
Love & carrots,
B
